Three road blockades in Virudhunagar

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Three road blockades were reported in the district by different political organisation on Monday condemning the alleged attack on people belonging to Arunthathiyar community by caste Hindus on Sunday.

A wordy duel between the people belonging two different castes led to rioting at South Anaikuttam near Sivakasi.

In the melee, eight persons were injured and attempt to murder case were registered against 17 persons.

The Adhi Tamilar Peravai cadres, led by their leader, Veerakanal, protested against “unfair” action by the police and blocked the highway near the Collectorate.

The police took into custody 22 cadres.

Cadres of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi also staged road rook separately at Sivakasi and Tiruthangal.
