CBI files report in Lavalin case high court round-up

Kochi: The CBI on Monday filed a report regarding the progress of investigation in the SNC Lavalin case before a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court.

The CBI is investigating the irregularities in the award of renovation and modernisation works of Pallivasal, Shengulam and Panniyar Hydel projects to SNC Lavalin, Canada. The CBI requested the court that the report might be re-sealed after perusing it. The CBI took over the investigation following a High Court directive. The petition filed by T.P. Nandakumar, editor, Crime, complaining about lack of progress in the investigation is pending before the Bench.

Revision petition

A petition was filed against the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court’s order dismissing a complaint seeking a Vigilance inquiry into the allegations against Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) members P. Narayanan and P.K. Sumathikutty. The petition was filed by Raju of Thiruvananthapuram.

Anticipatory bail

Justice V. Ramkumar granted anticipatory bail to P. Muhammed, PWD contractor in Malappuram, who feared that he would be arrested in connection with a case relating to the forgery of oil company bills.

The court ordered that he be released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs.10,000 with two solvent sureties to the like sum in case he was arrested.

The other conditions were; he should appear before the investigation officer between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on all Wednesdays; he should surrender his passport before the investigation officer and should not leave the limits of the session’s court without the permission of the court.

Allowed to travel

Justice V. Ramakumar on Monday allowed Govindankutty, who has been charged with publishing seditious material, to travel to New Delhi to participate in a meeting of the committee for the release of prisoners from March 26 to April 5.

More courts

The High Court on Monday was approached seeking a direction to the State government to establish more subordinate courts in the State.

The petition was filed by P.C. Iype, president, High Court Committee of the Kerala Lawyers Congress.
