Hooda bid to nail Opposition lie

Special Correspondent

“Some MLAs trying to disrupt the House proceedings to simply remain in news”

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday hit out at the critics of his regime, especially the Indian National Lok Dal, for downgrading the dignity of the Vidhan Sabha, violating democratic values and trying to grind their own axe under the veil of raising issues of “mass welfare”.

Winding up the debate on the Governor’s address, Mr. Hooda asserted that MLAs belonging to all groups had given their valuable suggestions during the debate but some members of the INLD had downgraded the dignity of the House by “trying to disrupt the proceedings of the House to simply remain in news”.

He asserted that today there was complete peace and communal amity in the State.

While referring to waiving of agricultural loans amounting to Rs.60,000 crore by the UPA Government, Mr. Hooda said that on behalf of every member of the House he would thank Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.

He refuted the assertion of INLD president and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala that with the implementation of the loan waiver scheme the number of defaulters would increase.

He said the UPA Government at the Centre had raised the minimum support price for wheat from Rs.630 per quintal in 2004 to Rs.1,000 at present by raising it by Rs.370 per quintal in four years. But the Lok Dal and the BJP had raised the MSP for wheat by merely Rs.40 per quintal between 1999-2000 and 2003-04.

Similarly, in the case of paddy, the Congress-led Government increased the rate of Grade A paddy by Rs.195 per quintal and that of common variety by Rs.145 per quintal whereas during the tenure of the NDA government at the Centre, these rates were increased by merely Rs. 40 per quintal in the case of both varieties of paddy.

When Mr. Hooda repeatedly asked his predecessor whether he was in favour of construction of the Hansi-Butana link canal, Mr. Chautala staged a walk-out.

He said that as against 578 lakh units of electricity supplied per day during 2004-05, the supply had increased to 739 lakh units per day.
