JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has released electricity connections to 1.86 lakh families living below poverty line (BPL) in 18 districts under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme. Besides, over 25,000 BPL families in other districts have been given connections under the Kuteer Jyoti Yojana. Minister of State for Energy Gajendra Singh, stating this in the Assembly on Monday, said the State had received Rs.47.18 crore from the Centre in 2005-06 and Rs.87.24 crore in 2006-07 for implementing the programme. The maximum number of 25,054 BPL families in Bhilwara district have benefited from the programme, followed by 19,938 in Alwar and 16,055 in Kota. Mr. Singh said the programme aimed at providing power connections to 5.19 lakh general and 17.51 lakh BPL families in the rural areas of the State’s 33 districts.
