Seven SEZ proposals cleared

Bangalore: In what could be described as unprecedented during President’s Rule, the State High Level Clearance Committee on investments, at a meeting chaired by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, on Monday cleared various project proposals totalling Rs. 49,000 crore including seven Special Economic Zones in the State.
In all, 28 major projects were cleared at the meeting, which was attended by K. Krishna Kumar, Adviser to the Governor; V.P. Baligar, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Commerce and Industries; Latha Krishna Rao, Chairman, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and other senior officials of the Government.
Investments
The proposed investments were largely in tier-two cities, inclduing Hiriyur, Gulbarga, Mysore, Mangalore, Hospet, Hassan, Yadgir, Kunigal and Haveri.
Land allotment
Incidentally, the land allotted for the SEZs or the other major projects have not been mentioned in the statement made over to the media. Further, four of the proposals approved bear the same address on Vittal Mallya Road, Bangalore.
