Ticketless travellers may get clicked

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Looking for a free ride on BMTC buses? Beware. If caught while travelling without a ticket, your photographs may appear in the newspapers stating that you had travelled in public transport buses without proper ticket.

Checking menace

In a bid to check the menace of ticketless travelling, the BMTC is contemplating to publish photographs of those who are caught travelling without a proper ticket.

A way out

BMTC Chief Security and Vigilance Officer S.K. Bellatti told The Hindu that the management is seriously thinking of publishing the photographs of travellers without tickets as its checking squads have being finding hundreds of ticketless travellers every day. The checking squad during the last week had checked 5,231 buses and detected 1,861 passengers travelling without tickets and imposed a fine of Rs 1.47 lakh.

As many as 880 cases were booked against such travellers, Mr. Bellatti pointed out. He added that such stringent action is essential to curb this menace.

‘Must complain’

Mr. Bellatti requested the passengers to demand tickets from the conductors. He has also asked the passengers to inform him over phone (9945670171) the details of the conductor who fails to issue proper tickets.
