NEW DELHI: The Chandrabhaga hostel party on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus at midnight on Sunday night ended on a sour note after two groups of students clashed apparently over some trivial matter. While Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad claimed that its activists were beaten up by former students’ union president Dhananjay Tripathi and Students’ Federation of India activists like Roshan Kishore, the Left-backed students’ outfit refuted the allegation outright, denying any role in the incident. According to ABVP’s JNU unit head Amit Singh, Dhananjay and Roshan along with some outsiders beat up three students -- Manoj Kumar, Santosh Pathak and Saurabh Dubey -- “without any provocation”. “I think there was some kind of misunderstanding during the party, after which these SFI activists attacked the three. Manoj and Santosh have been injured and suffered fractures in the clash. We have filed a complaint with the Vasant Vihar police station. We also met Rector-II Ramadhikari Kumar in this regard,” Amit said on Monday. However, Dhananjay had a different version of the story to narrate, claiming that Roshan and he were not even present during the annual Chandrabhaga hostel party and were in their Mandavi Mahi hostel when the incident took place on Sunday night. “We were in our hostel when we got a call at about 12-30 a.m. informing us that the ABVP group had beaten up a student during the dance session at the party. Apparently, some people pushed each other on the dance floor. Three students, Manoj, Saurabh and Gopal Krishnan, thrashed the boy,” the former JNUSU president said. Further, Dhananjay claimed, “Roshan and I reached Chandrabhaga hostel only when we heard about the clash”. Meanwhile, Proctor H. B. Bohidar said an inquiry would be conducted into the incident.
