Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stake-holders of Kerala tourism industry make it a point to launch new tourism products, initiatives and tour packages at international travel and trade shows to corner attention.

The just concluded ITB Berlin also saw the launch of a new initiative by a private stake-holder from the State. Ambassador to Germany Meera Shankar launched Airtravel Enterprises Group’s tourism planning and consultancy division — Great India Tourism Planners and Consultants International (GITPAC).

Ms. Shankar handed over a copy of the brochure to Union Tourism Secretary S. Banerjee in the presence of Secretary, Kerala Tourism, V. Venu to launch the division.

Led by former Union Tourism Secretary B.K. Goswami, the GITPAC has a panel of eminent consultants of national and international reputation. Former Additional Director (Planning and Projects) U.V. Jose is the Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Jose says the division will offer planning and consultancy services to the public and private sector in tourism with focus on sustainability and benefits to the local community. Chairman and Managing Director of the ATE Group and vice-chairman of the division E.M. Najeeb says organisations specialising in tourism-based services are needed to supplement the fast growing tourism industry.
