BSNL employees go on fast

Day-long strike: BSNL employees staging a dharna in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: About 1,000 members of the AP United Forum of BSNL Unions went on a day’s hunger strike in all district headquarters across the State on Tuesday, demanding five promotions to all non-executive employees, on par with executives without any discrimination.

While the employees sat on fast, their leaders addressed gatherings during lunch-hour. The national steering committee of the forum had given the call for a day’s hunger strike.

In the State capital, about 100 employees went on fast at the BSNL Chief General Manager’s Office, Abids, and at Hyderabad district headquarters BSNL Bhavan, Adarshnagar. About 300 employees each attended lunch-hour meetings.

P. Asoka Babu, all-India assistant general secretary of the forum, J. Sampath Rao, State secretary, BSNL Employees’ Union, K. Jaya Prakash, circle secretary of the union, A. R. K .Sharma, circle secretary, BSNL Workers Rashtriya Union, J.S.R. Prasad, State president, National Union of BSNL Workers, Y. Ramakrishna Rao, State president, BSNL Workers’ Rashtriya Union, addressed the meetings.

A. Radheshyam, city CITU secretary, and Dasarath, city INTUC vice- president, also spoke, expressing solidarity with the protestors.
