KOCHI: The Special Investigation Group-II of Ernakulam Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested Rajan, 52, an accused in a counterfeit currency note case who was absconding.

Rajan, also known as Kunjumon, belongs to Vellimadom Veedu, Areeparambil, Manarakadu, Kottayam.

The Kottayam West police had registered a case against him and four others for attempting to exchange counterfeit currency of the denomination Rs.500 at Pulimoodu Junction, Kottayam, on December 9, 2007.

This case was later handed over to the Crime Branch. While the police had arrested Thankappan, Magin, Shajahan and Kunjumohammed in connection with the case, Rajan went into hiding. A Crime Branch team led by Superintendent of Police P.H. Ashraf and detective inspector K.S. Shaji arrested him from the city on Tuesday morning.
