dated March 19, 1958: Photographic goods

Mr. Manubhai Shah, Union Minister of Industries, inaugurating the first All-India Convention of Photographers in New Delhi on March 17 said that an agreement with certain foreign manufacturers for the setting up of a factory to manufacture photographic goods at Ootacamund was about to be finalised. The factory which would cost Rs. 8 crores, was expected to produce about four million square feet of raw films in about four to five years’ time, he added. He said that the Government did not consider photography as an item of luxury but realised its vital importance in modern times. Mr. Shah said that the factory, besides producing four million feet of raw films against the present requirement of three million feet in the country, would cover the entire requirement of X-Ray films and sensitised material for professional photographers.
