Cultural awards declared

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kalamandalam Gopi, Kathakali artiste, has been selected for State Kathakali Puraskaram 2007 and the Krishnanattom artiste K. Velayudan Nair for the State Nritya Natya Puraskaram 2007.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Minister for Culture and Education M.A. Baby said each of the awards carried a purse of Rs. 1 lakh and citation. A committee headed by O.N.V. Kurup, poet, and comprising Vice-Chancellor of the Kalamandalam university K.G. Paulose, Vasanthi Menon and Secretary, Cultural Affairs, V. Venu selected Mr. Gopi. A jury headed by Dr. Paulose, Neena Prasad and Dr. Venu selected Mr. Nair.
