Young Lions Club rides on Gopinath Sandra’s all-round show

Bangalore: Gopinath Sandra’s all-round show (57 and four for 52) helped Young Lions Club defeat Young Cricketers Association (Kolar) by 140 runs in a KSCA Group I, fifth division league cricket match here recently.

Young Lions Club scored 317 in 47.4 overs and bowled out Young Cricketers Association for 177 in 44.2 overs.

Group I, fifth division: Young Lions Club 317 in 47.4 overs (Gopinath Sandra 57, Sharath 56, Giridhar Koppika 53) bt Young Cricketers Association (Kolar) 177 in 44.2 overs (Raghuveer 51, Santhosh Kumar six for 54, Gopinath Sandra four for 52).

Silky Town CC 217 in 48 overs (Humayun Baig 64, Shiv Kumar six for 45) lost to Hammonds CC 218 for nine in 47.1 overs (Vasu 63 n.o., Asif Rafi five for 103).

Sri Jayachamarajendra CC 300 in 50 overs (Rashid Mohsin 76) bt City Gymkhana 218 in 44.4 overs (Nararayanaswamy 67).

Johnson CC 190 in 45 overs (Gurumurthy 44, B. Tanu five for 47) lost to Deccan United CC 192 for seven in 37.5 overs (Sharath 60).

Govt. RC College 205 in 48.2 overs (Balaji 58) lost to Wilson Garden CC 206 for four in 35 overs (Vignesh 56).

Group II, second division: CIL SC 117 in 28.5 overs (Ram Mohan four for 27) lost to BEML RC (Bangalore) 118 for four in 24.4 overs.

BEL SC 166 for eight in 30 overs (Narasimha Prasad 42 n.o.) lost to BEML SC (KGF) 169 for six in 29.2 overs (Khaleel Ahmed 54 n.o).

RBI blanks MICO

Reserve Bank of India beat MICO 4-0 in the Travancore Cup hockey tournament here on Tuesday. Goutham (16th), Ashwin (44th), Santosh (47th) and Kavin (51st) scored for the winner.

In another match, ITI beat Flying HC 1-0 with Satish (5th) slotting in the winning goal.

Dravid praises Woolmer

Rahul Dravid praised Bob Woolmer on a day that marks the first death anniversary of the former Pakistan cricket coach.

When asked about Woolmer, who died in tragic circumstances on March 18 during the World Cup in the West Indies, last year, Dravid said, “Bob was a great cricketer and who ever stood up for the promotion of cricket will remember him forever.”

The former India skipper also said that he is looking forward to the Test series against South Africa.

Dravid briefly spoke to the media on the sidelines of a private function.
