NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old domestic help and his two alleged accomplices have been arrested by the Delhi police in connection with the theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs.45 lakh and Rs.3 lakh in cash at Paschim Vihar here earlier this year. The police claim to have recovered a diamond necklace, a diamond-studded wrist watch, seven gold rings, two diamond bangles, six diamond earrings pairs and Rs.97,000 in cash. According to the police, Murari Lal Bansal of Mianwali Nagar registered a complaint with the Paschim Vihar police on January 26 that his domestic help Arun had decamped with jewellery and Rs.3 lakh in cash when the family had gone out to attend a function. “The fact that the accused was employed by the Bansals only a few months ago and that they had not been got his verification done made the task all the more difficult,” said a senior police officer. Subsequently raids were conducted at several places in the Capital, but Arun continued to evade arrest. A few days ago Head Constable Rishi Yadav received a tip-off that Arun would be coming to Beadonpura to meet his accomplice and dispose of the stolen jewellery. A trap was laid and Arun was arrested allegedly while in possession of some jewellery and cash. Later Raj Kumar and Somnath, a jeweller, were arrested at his instance and stolen jewellery was recovered.
