PAMEDU (Chhattisgarh): The Maoist cadres, which had been camping in the timber reserves of Pamedu, had virtually no information about the joint operations intensified in this part of the South Bastar. The deployment of grey hounds on the inter-State border paved the way for sealing the forest routes along the course of the Taliperu river that formed the boundary line here between Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The police had complete information on the movement of the cadres and leaders in the area thanks to the inputs from the district headquarters. The police officials had conducted an aerial survey of the forest stretch last week. Police forces advanced towards the Maoist camp in the early hours and surrounded them before they could take positions and retaliate. Some thirteen of them died in the attack while many of the cadres managed to escape with their weapons. As the police forces were scouting the wild for the bodies, the Maoists launched an attack on them around 12 noon. Second spellFour more naxalites were killed in the second spell of the exchange of fire. The police could successful beat back the attack. But sporadic firing was reported till late in the evening. The police forces which continued the combing operation in the forest pocket sought to take the support of the tribes from Bastar for shifting the bodies. As there was little response from the local, they planned to airlift the bodies.
