For the people: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the Argul Rajaram Guthpa lift irrigation scheme before dedicating it to farmers at Ummeda village of Nizamabad district on Tuesday.
PERKIT (NIZAMABAD Dt.): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said here on Tuesday that his Government would make all out efforts to restore the glory of the district as the ‘rice bowl of Telangana’ by modernising the Nizamsagar project and its canal network. Modernisation“Our Government is firmly committed to completing the modernisation in the next three years by spending an amount of Rs.600 crore. Similarly, we will take up the Pranahita-Chevella Project soon covering 32 mandals of the district. The two projects will make Nizamabad district green,” he said. ‘Promise fulfilled’Addressing a large public meeting here after dedicating the Argul Rajaram Guthpa lift irrigation scheme at Ummeda village on Tuesday, he said his Government had abided by its promise of completing the two irrigation projects--Alisagar and Guthpa--under the ‘Jalayagnam’ programme to provide water to over 80,000 acres in the tail-end ayacut of Nizamsagar. The Chief Minister said his Government was implementing ‘Jalayagnam’ with missionary zeal against all odds. It would complete all the 74 irrigation projects under the programme to improve the lot of farmers and agricultural labourers. The Pranahita-Chevella project alone would irrigate 3.85 lakh acres in the district, he added. Facility for AdilabadResponding to the request of the people of Adilabad, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy said efforts would also be made to provide irrigation to Nirmal and Mudhole Assembly constituencies through the Sriram Sagar Project. Seeking to instil confidence among beedi workers, who constitute a large chunk of the population of the district, the Chief Minister disclosed that the Union Government had decided to withdraw its mandate to print danger mark (skull and cross bones) on the beedi bundles. Among those who attended the meeting were Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Ministers R. Damodar Reddy, D. Srinivas and Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Madhu Goud Yaskhi, MP, MLAs B. Govardhan, P. Sudarshan Reddy and S. Gangaram, MLCs R. Venkatram Reddy, B. Mohan Reddy and D. Rajeswar. The Armoor MLA, S. Santhosh Reddy, presided.
