Hotel told to pay compensation
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has directed The Oberoi hotel here to pay a compensation of Rs.60,000 to one of its employees whom it had dismissed way back in 1986 accusing him of stealing 30 soup spoons.
The direction by a Division Bench came on an appeal by the dismissed employee, Ashok Sharma, against a Single-Judge order of the Court. The Single Bench had upheld the judgment of a labour court here which had dismissed the petition by Sharma saying that the management was right in taking action.
The Division Bench said: “We cannot reinstate him in service but we order the hotel management to pay him a compensation of Rs.60,000 as he has been without a permanent job for 22 long years.”
