HYDERABAD: Twelve districts identified by the government as prone to atrocities against the Scheduled Castes will soon have police stations to exclusively deal with these cases. The districts are Prakasam, Guntur, West Godavari, Nellore, Vizianagaram, Kurnool, Kadapa, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Adilabad. This was one of the several announcements made by three Ministers in the Assembly on Tuesday while replying to the debate on demands relating to welfare of weaker sections. Social Welfare Minister P. Subhash Chandra Bose said the Government’s concern for SCs was such that it had appointed public prosecutors in 12 out of 30 cases of atrocities listed for trial. He said 16.2 per cent of the budgetary funds would be spent on SCs in proportion to their population. Tribal Welfare Minister D. S. Redya Naik said a Plains Girijan Development Agency would be set up with an initial budget of Rs. 2 crore to look after the needs of the 30 lakh tribals living in the plains. By October-end, the forest lands occupied by girijans would be regularised. Women Development & Child Welfare Minister N. Rajyalakshmi announced that the physically-challenged would be allowed three per cent reservation in case of Group I and II services too and in allotment of Indiramma houses.
