Ayesha murder: Centre urged to hand over case to CBI

Vijayawada police to continue their efforts to track down culprits

HYDERABAD: The government on Tuesday has written to the Centre to hand over the murder case of Ayesha Meera to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

This is the second time in the past one month the government shot off a letter to the Centre seeking transfer of the case to the CBI.

“We hope probe by a new agency with different perspective might throw up new clues leading in detection of the case,” Additional DGP A.K. Khan told reporters.

Even after the CBI takes up investigation, the Vijayawada police would continue their efforts to track down the culprits. Already, their six dedicated teams were working to disentangle the mystery behind the sensational killing failure to detect which was showing the State police department in poor light.

Asked about complicity of Gurvinder Singh alias Laddu in Meera’s murder case, Mr. Khan said “his role is neither confirmed nor cleared”.

The Additional DGP maintained that there were enough reasons to suspect Laddu’s role. His past record, attitude and behaviour led police to believe his involvement. Five tests were conducted on the suspect including DNA fingerprinting. “However, that is not sufficient to confirm his complicity and reports of other tests are yet to come. Laddu’s alibis are also being verified,” Mr. Khan explained. He didn’t rule out the possibility of two persons involved in the murder.

All suspects in the cases were examined. The Minister for Municipal Administration Koneru Ranga Rao’s grandson was not a suspect, he said replying to a question.

Referring to the refusal of the request to conduct narco-analysis test on a suspect by Vijayawada, Mr. Khan said the police have the option of moving the High Court.
