South Telangana also displays strong regional sentiment 2 lakh people from 14 constituencies turn up at the meeting MAHABUBNAGAR: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti functionaries are upbeat with the grand success of ‘Mahabubnagar maha garjana’, a mammoth public meeting held at MVS Degree College on Monday night. This is the second public meeting of TRS held after the mass resignations of its elected representatives to the legislative houses. Prestige issueThe district unit of the TRS took it as prestige issue and mobilised public in a mega scale from every nook and corner of the district. This gained importance against the backdrop of a section of political leaders commenting that Telangana sentiment was low in south Telangana region particularly in Mahabubnagar district. “We proved with this ‘Maha Garjana’ meet that south Telangana is on a par with its northern counterpart in the Telangana sentiment”, commented TRS district president Yennam Srinivas Reddy and general secretary Bekkem Janardhan. According to their estimate, over two lakh people from all the fourteen constituencies in the district had turned up for the meeting. As per schedule, the public meeting was to start at 4 o’clock in the evening but TRS president K. Chandra Shekhar Rao, Telangana ideologue K. Jaya Shankar and former MPs, MLAs and MLCs of the party stepped on to the dias at 7.45 p.m. amidst applause. Cheering crowdThe public responded with whistles and applause several times when Mr. Rao criticised the antagonists of Telangana state like Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu. In his 45-minute speech, Mr. Rao made a scathing attack on Congress, TDP and Telangana Congress MLAs and Ministers. He also lashed at Minister for Rural Development G. Chinna Reddy for his change in stand on Telangana just for a berth in the Rajesekhara Reddy Cabinet. Cultural fiestaThe cultural troupe of TRS headed by Rasamayi Balakrishna kept the audience engaged and entertained from the evening with local folk song and dance. Several times the audience danced by blowing whistles to the tunes of Rasamayi and his cultural troupe.
