Orders for “compassionate ground” jobs distributed

NEW JOBS: The Chennai Corporation’s recruits, appointed on compassionate grounds, display their work orders on Tuesday.

Chennai: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday had a word of advice for recruits who have been appointed on compassionate grounds in the Chennai Corporation: Refrain from asking for transfers for at least a year.

At a ceremony to hand over appointment orders to 500 persons recruited on compassionate grounds, the Minister endorsed Mayor M. Subramanian’s appeal to the recruits to work at least a year in their assigned positions before seeking transfers to other zones or divisions.

The Minister also told the Mayor to remain firm in the decision not to accept transfer petitions for a year. “Petitions will come. But even if there is pressure from Ministers, stand firm,” Mr. Stalin told the Mayor.

Mr. Stalin said the Corporation had started filling positions that had been vacant since 2001, given promotion orders wherever due and would soon regularise 2,500 temporary employees.

Earlier, Mr.Subramanian had asked the recruits to resolve to serve in the designated position for at least a year. “Employees assigned to work in Mylapore may want transfers to Saidapet zone just because they live there… But the Corporation’s efficiency must not be affected,” he said.

The recruits are dependents of former Corporation employees who died in harness or retired for medical reasons. They have been appointed as record clerks, time-keepers, typists, road workers, sanitary workers and health staff.
