HYDERABAD: A Bill enhancing the life tax on the second non-transport vehicle by individual owners from nine to 12 per cent was passed in the Assembly on Tuesday. The Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Act, 2008, piloted by Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana was aimed at providing a disincentive for owning more than one non-transport vehicle . Since all the Transport Department’s offices, including the Motor Vehicle Inspector’s unit offices, had been computerised , the system would enable detection of second and subsequent vehicles owned by individuals. The Bill also seeks to enhance the one-time tax on non-transport vehicles owned by organisations, institutions, societies and companies to 12 per cent, considering the financial capacity of the institutions and incentives offered by way of depreciation from manufacturers. It will bring motor cabs, costing less than Rs. 3.5 lakh, under the life-time tax category from the existing Rs. 330 being collected each quarter. The Andhra Pradesh Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008, aimed at checking the increasing incidents of attacks on doctors was passed on Tuesday .
