New refund policy from Deccan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Low-cost carrier Deccan has announced a new cancellation policy that will allow passengers to receive cash refunds for ticket cancellations as opposed to their earlier system of only issuing travel credit.

While full-service airlines generally issue cash refunds for cancellations, most low-cost airlines do not. Instead, they issue travel credit which forces passengers to reschedule their flights with the same airline.

“Our new cancellation policy promises increased ticketing flexibility and makes for a uniquely attractive value proposition in the LCC segment,” Ramki Sundaram, CEO, Deccan, said in a press release.

Deccan’s new policy also allows passengers to cancel tickets up to 4 hours before a flight, although a cancellation charge of Rs.750 and a transaction fee that is 10 per cent of the basic fare will be deducted from the amount refunded. The new policy will apply for tickets booked on or after March 17.
