Statement likely today

NEW DELHI: Members of Parliament of several political parties have apparently approached Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi to plead for ending the pre-recess budget session a day ahead of schedule, that is, on Wednesday.

While the Rajya Sabha is expected to continue to be in session till Thursday — on Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is expected to make a statement on the events in Tibet and on the the issue of Sarabjit, who is on death row in Pakistan.

On Thursday, MPs will bid farewell to their colleagues whose term ends in early April.

However, in the Lok Sabha, the “business is more or less over,” Mr. Dasmunsi told reporters. There are a few bills that have to be taken up, but that work would be over on Wednesday.

The first part of the budget session was to end on March 20, after which budget proposals would be studied and discussed by the standing committees of the relevant Ministries. It will continue in April after the recess and by early May, the Finance Bill would be passed.
