Bangalore: Former Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, who played a key role in starting work on the Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli, said on Tuesday that the Government was bound by the agreement it signed with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) that the HAL airport would be closed for commercial flights when the greenfield airport was ready. Speaking at a meet-the-press programme here, he said some quarters had expressed a desire to retain the HAL airport for commercial flights and said it was a matter of convenience. Since the Government had signed an agreement with BIAL, it was difficult to oblige those who were demanding that the old airport be retained, he said.
