Ashwin bowls Rovers to an innings win

CHENNAI: R. Ashwin bowled Jolly Rovers to an innings win over Eagle on day two of the 10th round TNCA first division cricket league match at IIT-Chemplast on Tuesday.

Ashwin took five for 104 (match figures of nine for 135) as Eagle, following on, was dismissed for 236. M. Santhosh Gopi top-scored with 56 in Eagle’s second innings.

In second day’s play in the other 10th round matches, Aruna’s S. Anirudha, Vijay’s Sree Kumar Nair and Globe Trotters’ Aashish Kapoor were among the wickets, while Alwarpet’s V. Maaruthi Raghav scored 176.

Anirudha scalps six

Anirudha’s six for 46, including a spell of three wickets in the space of 10 balls, was instrumental in Aruna gaining the first-innings lead over Indian Bank.

Indian Bank, which was 115 for two at one stage, was bowled out for 203. P. Sathish made 86. Aruna increased the lead to 190 by finishing on 68 for two.

At SRMC, left-arm spinner Sree Kumar Nair returned figures of 43-19-70-6 to help dismiss Parry’s for 229. Vijay, in reply, ended day two on 133 for four, with wicketkeeper and opener K. Varun Kumar unbeaten on 59.

Aashish Kapoor took five for 100, following his side Trotters being skittled out for 103, as an absorbing final day was set up at MRF-Pachaiyappa’s. Young Stars, thanks to half-centuries from L.N. Prasad Reddy and M. Srinivasan, set Trotters a target of 303. At stumps, Trotters was 60 for one in 22 overs.

Mammoth total

At ICL-Guru Nanak, V. Maaruthi Raghav’s 352-ball knock, which contained 23 fours, enabled Alwarpet total 529 against Grand Slam. Right-arm seamer M. Raja picked up five wickets. Grand Slam responded by scoring 96 for one.

India Pistons made 313 against IOB at CPT-IP. Jaffer Asique Ali’s 73 added to the half-centuries of S.P. Lekshmikumar and M. Suresh Babu. S. Desappan and R. Rajesh split eight wickets. Y. Gnaneswara Rao’s unbeaten 54 guided IOB to 117 for three in reply.

Jolly Rovers 376 for five decl. vs. Eagle 77 in 23.2 overs (R. Ashwin four for 31) and 236 in 55.1 overs (M. Santhosh Gopi 56, M. Lakshmi Narayanan 46, R. Ashwin five for 104). Points: Rovers 8, Eagle 0.

India Pistons 313 in 133.4 overs (S.P. Lekshmikumar 68, M. Suresh Babu 67, M.R. Srinivas 41, Jaffer Asique Ali 73, S. Desappan four for 94, R. Rajesh four for 80) vs. IOB 117 for three in 44 overs (Y. Gnaneswara Rao 54 batting).

Parry’s 229 in 126 overs (N.S. Kumaraguru 67, I.K. Rohit 45, Sree Kumar Nair six for 70) vs. Vijay 133 for four in 57 overs (K. Varun Kumar 59 batting).

Alwarpet 529 in 153.2 overs (S. Vidyut 121, V. Maaruthi Raghav 176, Ashwin Venkataraman 40, D. Vasu 40, M. Raja five for 101) vs. Grand Slam 96 for one in 26 overs (X. Thalaivan Sargunam 42 batting).

Young Stars 177 and 228 in 65 overs (L.N. Prasad Reddy 53, M. Srinivasan 62 n.o., Aashish Kapoor five for 100) vs. Globe Trotters 103 in 41 overs and 60 for one in 22 overs.

Aruna 325 in 91.3 overs (P. Sakthi 57, S. Anirudha 136, Malolan Rangarajan four for 106) and 68 for two in 19 overs vs. Indian Bank 203 in 64.5 overs (P. Sathish 86, K.H. Gopinath 48, S. Anirudha six for 46).

Sai Seetharam’s knock in vain

Sai Seetharam’s unbeaten 84 went in vain as Panimalar lost to Anna University by one wicket in the seventh RMK trophy inter-engineering college T20 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

The scores: Sathyabama University 114 in 17.3 overs (Vikram 40, Abishek 38, Senthil four for 19, Tamilarasan three for 14) bt Andal Alagar EC 85 in 19.2 overs (Tamilarasan 28); Panimalar EC 137 for five in 20 overs (Sai Seetharam 84 n.o.) lost to Anna University 138 for nine in 20 overs (Harshavardhan 57).
