Ex-Manipur Minister held
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A 46-year-old former Manipur Public Works Department Minister and senior Congress leader has been charged by a fellow party worker with attempting to outrage her modesty in her house at Mehrauli. The two-time Minister, Biren Singh, was arrested over the weekend and later let off on bail.
Mr. Singh had come to Delhi on March 13 and had been staying at Manipur House. During his stay, the victim came to meet him a couple of times as she had known him for a long time. During one such meeting, the woman invited Mr. Singh to her house in Chhattarpur Enclave for dinner. As per the agreed programme, Mr. Singh reached her house this past Friday around 7 p.m. and the two allegedly had some drinks, the police said. He then allegedly tried to molest the woman. The victim then called up the police, but by the time they arrived, Mr. Singh had already left on foot as his taxi had broken down.
Mr. Singh was arrested the next morning while he was on his way to the airport .
