KOCHI: While the numbers of jaundice cases have gone up to 63 in the district, the Health authorities have intensified field activities in Vengola panchayat and nearby areas to contain the spread of jaundice. Besides junior health inspectors, additional personnel have been deployed in the area to spread awareness about preventive measures. Members of Kudumbashree, Integrated Child Development Services scheme (ICDS) staff and other voluntary organisations have also joined the campaign. A squad consisting of five members will be visiting each house in the affected wards, with one squad covering 50 houses. According to health officials, the outbreak has been contained to a great extent. Since wells are a main source of drinking water, samples have been collected for lab analysis. Typhoid is another water-borne communicable disease that is reported from various places, especially West Kochi. Forty-five cases have been reported this year.
