Anganwadi workers seek reinstatement

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ Federation has demanded that 7,194 workers, who have lost jobs following the recent High Court order, be reinstated under special rules.
Representatives of Anganwadi workers, who had come for a rally in the city from 20 districts of Karnataka, met the Governor and put forth their demands to him.
They demanded that their jobs be made permanent, honorarium enhanced and they be provided retirement benefits. The workers expressed their opposition to what they called attempts at privatisation of the midday meal component of the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
Secretary of the federation affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) S. Varalakshmi, said that the Governor had assured that he would look into the demand of reinstatement.
Secretary to the Department of Women and Child Development Shalini Rajneesh met the Anganwadi workers and said that there was no attempt at privatisation of ICDS schemes.
