NIIST sets up chilli plant in Karnataka

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Scientists at the National Institute for Inter-Disciplinary Science & Technology (NIIST) here have reason to be proud when Minister of Commerce Jairam Ramesh inaugurates a fresh chilli processing plant at Byadgi in Karnataka on Friday.

NIIST provided technical support for the plant that has come up in the heartland of chilli trade in the country. The project was financed by the Karnataka-based Spices Trading Corporation Ltd.

The plant, with a capacity of 20 tonnes a day, will produce world-class Byadgi chilli with high colour and free of aflatoxins.

The production process will meet international standards, NIIST director T.K. Chandrashekar said here on Wednesday.
