Tourist attractions at the cost of Rs.3.65 cr. planned


Over Rs.50 lakh to be spent for laying roads

Flood protection wall between Athanavoor and Kottur Road likely



TIRUPATTUR: Yelagiri Hills near Tirupattur in Vellore district is all set to get a facelift. Funds have been allotted for an overall development of the hills to attract tourists.

The construction of a park is almost complete and officials said that Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav was trying to get Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin to formally inaugurate it.

The district administration was concentrating on laying footpaths and standard roads in the hills, the officials said. It was working out various options to introduce paragliding training at Muthunavoor. A test was planned a few days ago, but was given up owing to bad weather. A golf court was also being planned.

Tenders

Though the administration had worked out a plan to introduce various facilities to attract tourists at an estimated cost of Rs.3.65 crore, tenders were yet to be floated. The administration planned to lay footpaths on either side of the hills under part II of the scheme this year. Footpaths on the left side would be laid at the cost of Rs.20.7 lakh and the right side, Rs.30 lakh.

Cement road

Over Rs.50 lakh would be spent on laying roads in the hills. A tar road would be laid from Muthukaniyur to Palakaniyur at the cost of Rs.13.8 lakh. A sum of Rs.24 lakh would be spent for laying a cement road at Manjukolaipudur.

The officials said that a flood protection wall was planned at the cost of Rs.24 lakh between Athanavoor and Kottur Road. This would be supplementing the construction of a culvert at the cost of Rs.19 lakh.

Collector fund

The Collector, from his funds alone, had sanctioned Rs.90, 000 for the construction of an amphitheatre and a musical fountain. Apart from this, Rs.2.65 lakh would be spent this year for laying new pipelines to augment drinking water supply in the hills.

Other works under part II

As regards other works planned for this year under part II of the scheme, the officials said that Rs.2 lakh would be spent on a main arch before the park area.

A sum of Rs.4.50 lakh would be spent on an arch where the entry ticket to the park would be issued. Electrification and cabling works inside the park would cost Rs.7.50 lakh and Rs.3 lakh would be spent on a Santhome Maria Fountain planned inside the park.
