PUDUCHERRY: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol.Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said the party would hold a conference in the second week of May in Villupuram to highlight the problems faced by the Dalit Christians. Addressing the party activists who participated in a dharna here to condemn the Eraiyur incidents, he said the proposed meet would be called Dalit Christians Uprising Conference. Mr.Thirumavalavan described the declaration made by the Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore after a meeting of the priests of the archdiocese on Tuesday as “historic”. He denied the charge that pasting of posters bearing certain slogans by the VCK had triggered violence at Eraiyur in Villupuram district. Mr.Thirumavalavan made it clear that the party was only opposing discrimination against the Dalits irrespective of their religious affiliations. The struggle opposing atrocities against the Dalits would continue, he said.
