PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Wednesday appealed to all nationalised banks “not to make an undue delay” in extending education loans. Shortly after inaugurating a branch and online stock trading point of Indbank, a subsidiary of Indian Bank, Mr. Rangasamy said there should not be any delay in distributing loans to students pursuing higher education. Mr. Rangasamy also urged the banks not to insist on collateral security from the members of self-help groups seeking loan for starting self-employment. Complimenting the Indian Bank for its contribution to the Union Territory’s economic growth, Mr.Rangasamy said the banks should play a proactive role in the socio-economic development of the country. Later, talking to reporters on the disbursal of educational loans, Executive Director of the Indian Bank A. Subramanian said the bank had distributed education loans to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crore to around 60,000 applicants during the last year.
