Tumour weighing 25 kg was removed from her abdomen

GULBARGA: Sixty-nine-year-old Mehboobi Jamal Inamdar got a fresh lease of life after a tumour weighing 25 kg was removed from her abdomen by a team of doctors led by Gangambika Nisty, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital here.

“I am thankful to the doctors for removing the heavy tumour that was troubling me for the past five years,” said Ms Inamdar, mother of six. The surgery was conducted on March 10.

Ms. Inamdar, who hails from Yergol village in Yadgir taluk, said that she could not undergo a surgery until now because of the exorbitant cost involved.

Dr. Nisty said: “It is for the first time that I removed such a huge tumour. It was a difficult operation and there was high chance of the patient collapsing on the operation table due to neuro shock and loss of blood,” she said. “The doctors who performed the surgery completed the three-hour procedure successfully,” she said. Ms. Inamdar’s uterus had come down due to the the tumour. It had also pushed her lungs upwards, causing difficulty in breathing, Dr. Nisty said. “The uterus was restored to the original position and the lungs have started functioning normally," she said.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dileep Rampure was instrumental in providing treatment free of cost to Ms. Inamdar. Ms. Inamdar had attended a medical camp organised by the Gynaecology Department in February. “I want to go back to my village before Ugadi and distribute jaggery and neem leaves to my friends”, she said.
