Staff Reporter

THALASSERY: A two-day seminar on ‘Adivasi issues’ and ‘Social changes in India,’ organised by the Department of Anthropology of Kannur University on the Thalassery campus, concluded here on Wednesday.

University Vice-Chancellor P. Chandramohan inaugurated the seminar on ‘Social changes in modern India’ on Wednesday. Mr. Chandramohan said the pre-colonial education system in the country had been rendered irrelevant with the education system introduced during colonisation.

The former Head of the Department Ananda Bhanu delivered the keynote address. Academic Rajan Gurukkal spoke about Adivasi communities. Head of the Department Vineetha Menon and campus director K.M. Haridas spoke.

State Scheduled Caste-Tribe Commission chairman P.K Shivanandan inaugurated the seminar on ‘Adivasi issues in the State’ on Tuesday. He said that Adivasis needed basic livelihood facilities immediately and not roads and bridges.
