Corporators dub Commissioner dictator

Staff Reporter

They say they are unable to answer their constituents even in matters like replacement of fused streetlights

ANANTAPUR: Cutting across party lines the corporators accused the Municipal Commissioner of acting like a dictator at the council meeting of Anantapur Municipal Corporation held here on Tuesday.

They alleged that they were unable to answer their constituents even in matters like replacement of fused streetlights.

The meeting approved a budget of Rs. 41.27 crore for the corporation for 2008-09 financial year immediately after the council was convened.

The meeting observed silence for two minutes in respect of former deputy municipal chairperson B. Laxminarayana, who died on Sunday.

After the condolence, corporators of the ruling Congress, TDP, CPI (M), CPI and independents rushed to the podium with fused bulbs stating that many streets in their division had no streetlights and their requests to the commissioner to replace them had proved futile.

The corporators also raised slogans against Commissioner B. Nagabhusham and dubbed him as a dictator.

They alleged that he was making them dummies in their divisions by not taking up any work requested by them including replacement of streetlights.
