HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy did some tough talking at a meeting with the Ministers, District Congress Committee presidents and PCC executive members from Telangana saying that their performance in the byelections would be closely monitored.

Amid talk of byelection to the 16 Assembly and four Lok Sabha constituency vacated by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLAs and MPs, Dr. Reddy convened a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, where he said in no uncertain terms that laxity by the Ministers or the DCC presidents would not be tolerated. He said each one had to take up the responsibility of ensuring the success of the party nominees.

Survey

Stating that the leaders could not take the byelections easily, Dr. Reddy wanted all of them to coordinate their campaign with the local leaders. He cautioned the leaders against referring to the Telangana issue and wanted them to highlight the developmental programmes taken up in the State as the campaign issue. Dr. Reddy reportedly mentioned that a survey indicated that party would easily win eight and wrest four more seats with concerted efforts.

When the Nalgonda DCC president Mallesh Goud spoke about the Bhongir public meeting planned by the seniors, Dr. Reddy said the high command would deal with the issue.

Speaking to reporters later, the APCC in-charge president G. S. Rao and the DCC presidents said the Ministers would tour the assembly segments going to polls on March 22 and 23. From March 26 till April 6, the Ministers and DCC leaders would participate in party flag hoisting programmes in the villages.
