R. Subbiah appointed High Court Judge

CHENNAI: R. Subbiah, who has been appointed as a Judge of the Madras High Court, is to be sworn in on March 24.

Son of S. Ratnavel Pandian, a retired Judge of the Supreme Court, Mr. Subbiah (49) after graduation did his B.L. at the Law College here between 1980 and 1983. He enrolled in the programme in December 1983.

He worked as an advocate in M/s. King and Partridge (legal firm) under Dulip Singh, Senior Partner, from January 1984 to April 1994. Thereafter, he started practising independently in the Madras High Court on the Original and Appellate (civil, criminal and company law matters) and Writ side besides various Administrative Tribunals, Debts Recovery Tribunals and Arbitral Tribunals.

He is a Special Government Pleader (C.S) to appear before the High Court.

He is a senior panel counsel by the Government of India for conducting cases in the Madras High Court. He was earlier an Additional Central Government Standing Counsel.

With his appointment, the strength of the Madras High Court will go up to 46 as against the sanctioned strength of 49.
