Plan achievement not to fall short of target: Isaac

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said Plan achievement during the current year would not fall too short of target.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Dr. Isaac dismissed reports to the contrary in the media and said the achievement would be creditable except in the case of foreign-aided projects. Spending on Plan programmes came to Rs.2,536 crore as at the end of January. This came to 36.8 per cent of the total Plan of Rs.6,950 crore for the year.

Dr. Isaac said spending was in the region of 55-60 per cent as at the end of February, according to tentative data now with his department. In the case of Plan programmes of importance that could not be taken up during the current financial year, there would be no difficulty in providing funds in the next financial year through supplementary demands in the Assembly subsequently, he said.
