Cashew Board likely to be based in Kollam

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The proposed Cashew Board, which will undertake focused programmes to boost cashew cultivation and exports, will most likely have Kollam as its headquarters, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan told the Assembly on Wednesday.

Answering a submission moved by K.C. Joseph, MLA, who wanted the Cashew Board to be headquartered in Kannur, Mr. Gurudasan said Kollam was considered a more ideal location for it since a majority of the cashew processing units and export houses in the country were in that place. Officials of the Union Commerce Ministry visited Kollam recently in this connection.
