Small savings slide

BHUBANESWAR: Orissa may be widely dubbed as one of the economically happening states, but it is not reflected on ground.

The volume of small savings reported from 30 districts has gone down substantially.

According to a three year of comparative figure on small savings presented in State Assembly recently, total collection of small savings worth Rs. 912.13 crore during 2006-2007 compared to Rs. 1,322.15 crore in 2005-06.

Though the reason behind sudden fall in small savings was not given, the amount of Rs. 912.13 was achieved against a target of Rs. 1,484.

During 2004-05, the total small savings was worth Rs. 1,256.18 crore against target Rs 1,200 crore
