New firm to establish BRTS in Bikaner

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has established an urban transport service company for introducing the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Bikaner.

The new system will ease the pressure of traffic and popularise the special utility vehicles in the city.

According to Minister of State for Urban Development Surendra Goyal, the Bikaner Municipal Council and the Bikaner Urban Improvement Trust would have a share of 50 per cent each in the company, which would be established with an initial capital of Rs. 30 lakh.

Regulatory body

The new company will act as a regulatory body for buses to be run on the routes identified under BRTS. Its Board of Directors will comprise, among others, the Municipal Council Chairman and the Collector.

Mr. Goyal said two members would be selected as stakeholders’ representatives from among the civil society bodies and voluntary organisations functioning in the town.
