Contractors’ plea
Thiruvananthapuram: The All Kerala Government Contractors Association has asked the Chief Minister and the Ministers concerned to intervene and bring under control the soaring prices of construction materials like cement, steel and sand and tar. Association general secretary P. Viswanathan said in a statement here that the hike in the price of cement and steel was the highest in the history of the State. The price of steel went up by Rs.24,000 during the last three months alone to reach Rs.52,000 a tonne. The price of cement had gone up from Rs.220 to Rs.270 a bag. The prices were expected to increase still more. — Special Correspondent
