One more samathuvapuram planned

Officials instructed to find out a suitable site in Virudhunagar district

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The district administration has planned to set up one more Samathuvapuram.

Chairing a review meeting here on Wednesday, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, asked the officials to find out a suitable site for the new samathuvapuram at Aruppukottai, Tiruchuzhi, Narikudi, Vembakottai or Watrap. The site should be along an important road or near the Taluk or Block Development Office.

The Collector also wanted to find out the feasibility of acquiring private land for the purpose, if Government poromboke land was not available.

He directed the officials to follow the time-table for works to be taken up under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. All the work, except for the maintenance of ooranis, should be selected by April 15 and the estimates for them prepared by April 30.

Those works should be ratified by the gram sabha meetings to be held on May 1 and administrative sanction issued by May 31. The deadline for issuing work orders is June 30.

Rural job scheme

On the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, Mr. Chandrasekaran advised the panchayat presidents to act without any bias in registering the people to work under the scheme. At least 30 per cent of the total number of families should be compulsorily registered, he said.

Improvement work on tanks and supply channels belonging to the Public Works Department could be taken up only after getting no objection certificate (NOC) from the PWD. The NOC should certify that there were no water bodies belonging to the panchayats that could be taken up for improvement.
