Shimla: Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Shanta Kumar was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday from Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Kumar, the two-time Chief Minister of Himachal, was the only candidate to file his nomination for the lone Upper House seat from the hill State. He was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended in the evening. The Rajya Sabha seat from the State fell vacant after BJP’s Suresh Bhardwaj was elected to the State Assembly. PTI
