Hyderabad: The ICC may have declared that they will not recognise the Indian Cricket League. But for the prospective sponsors, it seemed to matter little. For, the Kolkata Tigers, who may not be really roaring yet in the Edelweiss 20s Challenge cricket championship, there was reason to celebrate.

The Tigers captain Craig McMillan and the organisers were excited to get a title-sponsor when Gitanjali Group, the country’s largest integrated jewellery manufacturer, came forward to make it’s presence felt in the world of cricket.

Adri Voorn, Executive Director of the Group, says his group would like to be the heart of young India. “Cricket in India is more than a sport which enjoys a cult status. We are glad to be associated with this magnificent game, the singular most unifying force in this country,” he remarked after formally introducing the complete Tigers team to the media in their new, colourful attires. The beaming faces of coach Darryl Cullinan and captain McMillan said it all. “We will try to respond to this gesture in style on the field,” was the modest observation of the coach.

Kiran More, Executive Board member of ICL, welcomed the sponsors gesture and hoped many more would line up for the event. And the players and the select gathering got a feast of the rich variety of jewellery when the models walked on the ramp to showcase the products.
