A student reportedly faxed a hand-written list of questions to the board Official says some people try to make money by selling these papers Bangalore: On Wednesday, even before the second Pre-University Course Physics examination commenced, rumours erupted that the question paper had leaked. An aggrieved parent of a second PUC student, who refused to be named, told The Hindu that his son saw his classmates carrying the “leaked” question paper before the examination began. “This is unfair to students who work hard and study well for the examinations. The department should take steps to ensure such incidents do not recur,” he said. When contacted, S.G. Hegde, Commissioner, Department of PU Education, rubbished the possibility of a question paper leak. “I can confidently say that the rumours about the paper leak are baseless. Whenever examinations are conducted for important papers, such rumours are floated. People with vested interests try to make a fast buck by spreading such canards,” he said. He said that a student who claimed to have the copy of the leaked question paper had faxed it to the department. “The questions were handwritten and were only for about 35 marks. Experts in the field and senior lecturers can easily guess 30 per cent of questions that are likely to appear. Even tuition centres circulate ‘probable questions’ among their students. Students should not get carried away by these rumours,” he added. He invited students to inform the department about supposed paper leaks as soon as they get to know of it. “We can take action if the students keep us informed. Suitable police action will be initiated against the people responsible for spreading rumours and making money by selling the so-called leaked papers,” he said. MalpracticeMeanwhile, 43 cases of malpractices were reported across the State on Wednesday. The students caught indulging in malpractices would be debarred for three years. Thirty-six cases were reported for the Physics examination and seven for the Accountancy examination. For the Physics examination, most cases were reported in Bidar (13), followed by Bagalkot (6), Raichur (5), Bellary (2), Belgaum (2). One case each was reported in Gadag, Kolar, Bangalore Rural, Chickaballapur, Koppal, Shimoga and Tumkur. For the Accountancy examination, four cases were reported in Bagalkot and one each in Bangalore South, Bagalkot and Tumkur.
