Engineers approve quality of school buildings

Team constituted in the wake of collapse of a part of school building

‘The construction in collaboration with an NGO is yielding better results’

28 school buildings taken up and completed under SSA since Mar 2006

Hyderabad: The experiment of construction of school buildings in the twin cities under Government-private partnership has found the approval of the team of qualified retired engineers constituted by Hyderabad Collector R.V. Chandravadan.

The construction in collaboration with devoted NGO is yielding better results than the traditional methods of public tenders, said the team of engineers.

They were constituted as third party to visit the 28 school buildings taken up and completed under SSA since Mary 2006. Only one school at Lalapet is nearing completion.

The district Collector constituted the team in the wake of collapse of a part of school building during construction at Manikikeshwar Nagar.

The team was asked to check the quality of works of the buildings – design, structure, stability and to submit a report within ten days.

The schools were mostly constructed by Nandi Foundation and Round Table India under voluntary contribution scheme.

The third party verification found the structural stability of the RCC buildings strong and sound, duly matching the specifications adopted as per the designs.

The rooms are fairly big in size and well ventilated. Durable doors and windows are fixed.

Toilets are of standard quality but inadequate in number. Rough handling resulted in some fixtures and sinks getting damaged at GBHS, Goshamahal.
