HYDERABAD: A meeting held in city centre highlighting people’s problems left thousands of citizens stranded on roads for hours together on Wednesday. The public meeting held under the aegis of the CPI urging higher Budget allocations for Backward Classes resulted in massive traffic jam at RTC crossroads, Himayathnagar, Liberty and Narayanaguda localities. Thousands of people going to officesgot stuck in traffic jams at several places as participants of the meeting took out a procession from Baghlingampally and Indira Park to Nizam College Grounds. As participants of the meeting began to assemble at Indira Park and Baghlingampally around 10 a.m., traffic movement on roads linked to RTC crossroads, Secunderabad and Himayathnagar got disrupted. With processions being taken out to the meeting venue, traffic movement came to a grinding halt on these routes. “At Narayanaguda, I got stuck in traffic jam for over an hour. Even the traffic policeman on the road was helpless,” Vijay, a businessman, said. He had to postpone all his business engagements till evening. Parents, who went to bring their children back home from schools, were also put to difficulty. As mercury inched upwards, some schools announced half-day classes. But chock-a-block streets forced the kids to wait under the scorching sun for long. It was only after 3 p.m. that normal traffic movement was restored.
