‘Tackle water crisis on a war footing’
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Deputy Commissioners of all the districts in the State have been directed to take steps on a war footing to tackle the possible water crisis in the coming months, said Sudhakar Rao, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka.
He was speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of Harshakala, the national handloom expo, here on Wednesday.
“The Government spends close to Rs. 500 crore in tackling the water crisis in the State, every year. I have written to all Deputy Commissioners to concentrate on solving the possible water shortage. They have been directed to take steps to ensure water is supplied to the water-starved areas,” he said.
Mr. Rao also said that more apparel technology parks are likely to come up in the State. He said that the one at Doddaballapur is likely to be fully functional by June 1. “A few units are already functioning. The main reason for the delay is water shortage. We are working on rectifying the problem soon,” he said. About loan waiver for weavers, he said that the facility had been extended only to 20 per cent of weavers. “It was not applicable to all weavers. We have been receiving a lot of complaints,” he said.
